The upcoming IPL auction has generated a lot of interest, as it always does. This year, a total list of 233 capped players from almost 10 countries has been distributed for the eight IPL franchises. There are about 46 Indian capped players who have been pegged at the top basic price point of Rs. 2 crore or 20 million. This list features the likes of Virender Sehwag, Yusuf Pathan, Yuvraj Singh, Pragyan Ojha and Dinesh Karthik. There are many international players in the same bracket as well. This includes last IPL and Ashes star Mitchell Johnson, Steven Smith and Brad Haddin along with Kevin Pieterson. Surprise omissions from the list include Jos Buttler, Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes.

The 2014 IPL auction could see a bidding war for Kevin Pieterson after Delhi decided not to retain him, Virender Sehwag and David Warner. It goes without saying that Delhi will have the maximum purse to spend at the auctions. The top draws this season include Alex Hales, the number 1 ranked T20 batsman and of course, Corey Anderson, New Zealand’s all-round sensation. There could be a war over Sehwag and Warner as well while Mitchell Johnson is almost certain to pick up lucrative bids from multiple franchises too. Mumbai chose to retain Lasith Malinga and Harbhajan Singh instead of this star speedster and many franchises will be looking to cash in on the opportunity as well!
