All The Information You Need About The IPL Auctions

If you are an IPL fanatic, you must be waiting with bated breath for any news surrounding the 2014 IPL auction. This auction is highly important and pivotal towards determining overall team composition and strategy ahead of the main tournament itself. The auction itself is shrouded in mystery after all the controversies surrounding the IPL. In spite of the same, they are slated to be held on the 12th and 13th of February, as scheduled. We present all the information relating to the IPL auctions.

The IPL auction will see a total of 233 players going under the hammer. Alongside, the stellar performers in the recently concluded Ashes, namely Steven Smith, Brad Haddin and Mitchell Johnson, will be in the top price bracket of Rs. 2 crore at the auction. This list also contains prominent players from India including Yuvraj Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Yusuf Pathan, Dinesh Karthik and Virender Sehwag, who has been released by the Delhi Daredevils. Kevin Pieterson and David Warner have also been released by the same franchise and they will most likely attract multiple lucrative bids from franchises. Expect a bidding war for both Warner and Pieterson at the auctions along with a race to snap up Corey Anderson and Alex Hales, both of whom are hot picks this season.

Alex Hales, the number 1 ranked Twenty20 batsman in the world, can only be released by his country Nottinghamshire if he lands the most lucrative contract. Alongside, Corey Anderson is highly in demand after his exploits against India and his record breaking 36 ball ODI hundred against the West Indies. Notable absentees from the auction list include Varun Aaron, Kumar Sangakkara, Dinesh Chandimal, Mitchell Marsh, Michael Clarke, Stuart Broad, Kemar Roach, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler. Australian veteran Brad Hogg is the oldest player listed for auction along with another legend, Muttiah Muralitharan, coming a close second. Ryan ten Doeschate will be the only player from the Netherlands this season and Pakistani players will once again be unable to take part in the IPL.

Pakistan born Fawad Ahmad who represents Australia and Azhar Mahmood, who is an English citizen, have only been listed for the auctions. As per IPL auction rules and other regulations, all players will have to be paid only in Indian currency. However, foreign players can opt for their chosen currencies at prevalent exchange rates on either the due date for their contracts or actual payment dates as per their benefit and convenience. Teams like Mumbai, Rajasthan and Chennai have retained the maximum number of players, i.e. five each. They will have the lowest purses to spend at the IPL auctions. Delhi, however, will have the maximum amount available as they have released all their players.

You can now soak up all the excitement in style! Deck up in your favorite team colors, jerseys, caps and other merchandise! You can also snap up exciting sporting equipment as well. Get the best deals online and be the envy of all your friends and fellow IPL enthusiasts!
