What To Expect At The IPL Auction

The Indian Premier League will hit Indian shores in April and cricket fans cannot wait to see their favorite stars in action. The Indian Premier League has always been a beehive of activity and enthusiasm. We have all witnessed some epic matches, finishes, nail biting contests and individual performances that have gone into the realm of what is usually considered unbelievable or extraordinary. This is what makes the IPL such a viable and wealthy cricket league globally. It provides the best possible dose of entertainment to all its patrons and viewers. Coupled with the on-field drama are off field celebrity events, audience based events and loads of other attractions.

The IPL has also been associated with the film industry, thanks to its celebrity team owners and their colleagues. Audiences have been enthused by the plethora of special events dedicated to them each day with lucrative and fascinating prizes on offer as well. The complete package that IPL is, has worked totally in its favor. The main event that assumes importance ahead of the actual tournament is the IPL auction. The auction is extremely important as it will solely decide the fate of the 200 plus players going under the hammer.

Team owners and franchises will be locked in a severe battle of sorts, with regard to getting the players and global stars they desire. Every team will look to get its preferred stars along with some good Indian players who have made a mark in the domestic circuit. As a result, expect a frenetic bidding war between franchises and team owners at the auction. The 2014 IPL auction rules state that teams can only have a maximum of nine foreign players in their squads. Alongside, they can only pay a maximum amount of Rs. 2 crore to any player.

Most importantly, player retentions will only lead to a limited purse for the auctions. The nine player rule has put the focus firmly on local Indian talents. Domestic talents were not really highlighted in this manner in earlier editions even though the tournament has been a stage for the emergence of some fabulous domestic players. Going into the auctions, there are some teams who have decided to play it safe with tried and tested player combinations. These teams include Mumbai, Rajasthan and Chennai who have all retained the maximum number of five players allowed as per regulations. Bangalore has retained three of their top stars while other franchises have retained one or two players as per their team strategy.

Delhi Daredevils, in a unique move of sorts, has totally gone the non retention way, thereby taking everyone by surprise. They will have the maximum purse to spend at the auctions and this is something that has cricket fans super excited! You can now indulge in the excitement with cool sporting gear, team merchandise, autographed goodies and other memorabilia. Savor every moment on the field, decked out in your favorite franchise colors and be the envy of those around you!
